Bruce is an experienced leader in NHS Wales and was formerly the Director of Planning for Powys Health Board and Director of Primary Care for Cardiff Health Board. In both roles, he gained wide expertise of the NHS, managing and providing professional guidance across diverse areas including strategic service planning, capital planning, estates and facilities, the GP and Dental contracts, specialised service commissioning, informatics, leadership of transformation and technology innovation in the EU.
His original training in nursing provided a foundation for his transition into Public Health, pioneering HIV prevention and sexual health work in the third sector from the mid 1980s, and public health skills training. He made particular impact during this period though leading the implementation of a community development approach to health improvement in Cardiff.
Bruce is passionate about reaching, connecting with, and understanding the real lives of people in the process of service development and change and this underpins his approach to all that he works on.
Bruce is an experienced facilitator and working on a range of facilitation and leadership development assignments across the Welsh public sector, including Public Service Boards and Advisory Committees to Government. He also has extensive experience of leading public events, often in contentious circumstances and representing the outcome of consultation to NHS Boards. He facilitates carers support groups in South Gloucestershire as a means to being grounded in the lived experience of people
Based in Abergavenny Bruce is an active supporter and volunteer with his local theatre, enjoys growing, cooking and eating and learning about retail and artisan cheese through helping out at his local delicatessen, The Marches. Bruce is a Welsh Learner.
